Learning Commons: Library Cards and IDs

Information about services and resources
Do I need my library card to check out materials?

Yes. Your student ID is your official campus identification card.  Circulation staff places a barcode sticker on the back, and it becomes your library card.  Why?  Scanning this barcode ensures that items are checked out to the right person.

I forgot my library card.  Can I still check out materials?

Please show other official picture ID such as a driver's license, and you will be able to use materials in the library.

I lost my library card (student ID).  Can I still check out materials?

Please show other official picture ID such as a driver's license, and circulation staff will document the exception.  A notice will be added to your record requiring a replacement ID within one week.

Does the library loan materials to researchers who are not alumni, students or faculty?

This is for onsite use only.  Have circulation staff hold your government-issued ID in exchange for using materials.  Regular visitors might consider purchasing an annual membership.  The library keeps your member card on file and you show picture ID when borrowing.
