Holds apply to books and audiovisuals that circulate for One Week or Two Weeks. At your request, circulation staff will place the hold and notify you as soon as a copy becomes available. Please make sure we have your current phone number in our system in order to contact you promptly.
The item you want might be checked out to another borrower or unavailable for some other reason. Borrowers often renew older editions of popular textbooks several times, and we are glad to have these materials well used. In order to get your turn to use the materials, request a hold. When staff sees a Hold on an item, renewal is not allowed.
Circulation staff will still place a hold on the item, and refer your inquiry to a librarian who will get back to you. Staff will also scan the shelf for misfiled items or materials left on study tables.
Books and models in the reserve collection circulate inside the library for 2 hours or overnight for home use. We use advance sign-up to reserve overnight materials, and tracks returns on a daily basis. Hold requests on materials that circulate for longer periods are saved in the computer so that library staff is notified as soon as a copy becomes available.
